JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/27/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Athletic Department is announcing the beginning of a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Athletic Hall of Fame. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s eight-member hall of fame committee is now accepting nominations through July 1 for consideration. The inaugural class will be announced this coming fall during Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Homecoming week.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University has a longstanding tradition of excellence in athletic achievement including, but not exclusive of three NAIA National Championships, multiple number one rankings, national players of the year, and many players going on to play professional and semi-professional sports. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University has opened the window of opportunity for a countless number of athletes by providing a stage for their performance. This stage is a venue in which athletes, coaches and other participants achieved successes in the head to head competition of intercollegiate athletics.
It is the purpose of this Hall of Fame to honor those who have combined individual and collective achievement with the ethics and Christian values that are imbedded in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's global mission. These achievements bring with them local and national recognition and promote institutional prestige. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's administration, faculty, staff, student body and alumni seeks to honor those individuals or teams who have made outstanding contributions and the community at large by formally recognizing them in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's Athletic Hall of Fame.
Each year the Hall of Fame Committee will be responsible for collectively considering the nominations and selecting the most appropriate and deserving nominees for induction into Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Committee consists of members of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s community that have had an integral role in the operations, development of growth of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s athletics programs. The Hall of Fame Committee consists of eight members of which Dr. David Blackstock is the Committee Chair.
Nominations may be made at any time during the year, but must be received by the deadline of July 1 for consideration during that calendar year. Nominations will be retained for future consideration for a period of five years, in which the nominee that failed to be inducted must be re-nominated for future consideration. Nominations must be submitted on line, by mail, or by hand to the Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee to prompt the selection process. Formal inductions will be made during Homecoming week of each year to each individual or a representative who will accept the award on the inductee’s behalf.
