Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Cook Named TranSouth Player of the Week

Jackson, Tenn. - 4/16/2002 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University catcher/first baseman Roger Cook was named the TranSouth Player of the Week for the week ending on April 13th. Cook led the No. 4 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs to a 4-1 week including winning three of four conference games. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 34-13 overall and 14-5 in conference play.

Cook, a junior from Jackson, hit .450 on the week with four home runs, 13 RBI, two doubles, and six runs scored. Three of his four home runs this week came in one game versus Martin Methodist. The three homeruns in a game ties a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ record held by nine others dating back to 1963. On the season, Cook is hitting .395 and has driven in 47 runs. He has hit a team high 16 doubles and is second on the team in homeruns with seven. He has also thrown out four would be base stealers from behind the plate. Cook ranks seventh in the conference in hitting, second in RBI and third in doubles.

The Bulldogs will host Berry College this weekend for a four game series. This will be the final conference games of the year. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (14-5) currently has a one game advantage in the win column over Lee (13-5). Lee will host Trevecca Nazarene for their final conference series. Mere percentage points will decide determine the 2002 regular season conference champion.
