Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Powers Named TranSouth Pitcher of the Week

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/17/2006 - of Â鶹ÊÓƵ University has been named the TranSouth Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 16, 2006. Powers, a former standout at Humboldt High School, earns his first pitcher of the week honor, but already has a TranSouth Player of the Week honor to his credit this season. He becomes the first Â鶹ÊÓƵ baseball player to win a player and pitcher of the week honor in the same year.

Powers, a 6-foot-2 sophomore left-hander from Humboldt, Tenn., helped lead Â鶹ÊÓƵ to a 4-2 week as he posted a perfect 2-0 record on the week. In his two appearances, Powers allowed no runs in his 8.2 inning pitched. Powers tossed the final 1.2 innings in scoreless fashion of a come-from-behind win at No. 9 Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Ky.). Then Power’s started game three of the conference series versus Crichton College (Tenn.) in which he tossed a complete game shutout to earn his second win of the week. In his 8.2 innings, Powers allowed just six total hits and recorded three strikeouts.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ is 30-19 overall and 8-4 in the TranSouth, just two games out of first place. Â鶹ÊÓƵ closes out the conference season with a three game set at home versus top team Cumberland and then a three game road set at second place Trevecca Nazarene.
