JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/5/2006 - Judson Powers of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University (Tenn.) and Louis Magdaleno of Cumberland University (Tenn.) have been named the Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the TranSouth Conference. In addition to his conference player of the week honors, both players were also awarded the NAIA Region XI honors as well. These awards are for games played for the week ending on April 2, 2006.
Powers, a 6-foot-2 left fielder from Humboldt, Tennessee, helped lead Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to a 4-2 week including a three game sweep on the road at conference foe Lyon College. He recorded at least one hit, one run, and one RBI in all six games on the week. Powers posted a .407 average (11-for-27) with two doubles, two triples, three homeruns, and 14 RBI. He recorded 26 total bases and had a slugging percentage of .963 for the week. Powers scored 11 runs, tallied two walks, and was 1-of-1 in the stolen base department. He was perfect from the field with 14 putouts, two assists in his 16 chances. Powers also went 1-1 on the week on the mound with his win coming at Lyon. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 24-14 on the season and 4-2 in league play, good for third place, just two games back of league leading Cumberland.
