JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog softball team split their two games in the final day of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Softball Classic played at Fesmire Field. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA preseason poll, topped William Jewell College (Mo.) 5-2 in the first game and fell 3-1 to Spring Arbor University (Mich.) in the second game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 7-3 on the season.
In the first game, Mary Kosco (3-2) picked up where she left off on Friday as the tallied 11 strikeouts in win. On Friday, she recorded 15 strikeouts in the game, just one shy of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ record. Kristen Kolter continued her hot hitting as she went 2-for-3 in the game with a home run and two RBI. Holly Haycraft and Kosco also added two hits apiece. Bolivar native Kristen Kirk broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with her pinch hit two-RBI double.
Game two for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ saw Spring Arbor jump out to an early 3-0 lead with all three runs coming in the top of the second inning. The nine-hole hitter, Janna Klassen, blasted a two-run homer to start the scoring for Spring Arbor. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on yet another home run by Kristen Kolter, her second of the day. At the end of the day, Kolter's average was an impressive .647 with three homeruns and nine RBI.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a double-header versus Lambuth University on Tuesday, march 7 at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ starting at 3:00 pm.
