JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/14/2006 - The No. 5 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldoged ended their two-game losing streak, their longest in over a year, with a 73-62 win over Cumberland. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 21-5 on the season and 6-3 in league play. Cumberland fell to 5-20 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
After a slow start in the first half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretch their lead to 37-31 at halftime. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot just 46 percent from the field, including 25 percent (2-8) from behind the arc.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stepped up their shooting to 58 percent from the field and 44 percent (4-9) from three point range. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched to lead to 10 points on two occasions and nine points a few times. However, Cumberland always had an answer as they cut into the lead each time, and not allowing Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to pull away. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's 11-point lead at the end of the game, 73-62, was the biggest lead of the ballgame.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kinley Sellers with 16 points. Deywane Lee added 15 points, Pierry Valmera scored 11 points, and Ben Frederick scored 10 points.
Cumberland was led by Chase Burnett and Brandon Oldham with 12 points each. Joseph Northington added 11 points and Yanis Ivanovskis grabbed 10 rebounds.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays again on Thursday night when they travel Batesville, Arkansas to play Lyon College at 8:00 pm. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will then host the No. 1 team in the NAIA for homecoming on Saturday, February 18 at 4:00 pm.
