麻豆视频's Men Top Lambuth in Battle of NAIA Top 10 Teams, Win 20th of Season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/7/2006 - The NAIA No. 9 麻豆视频 University Bulldogs defeated No. 5 Lambuth University 85-75 on Tuesday night at 麻豆视频's Fred DeLay Gymnasium. 麻豆视频 avenged an earlier 81-70 loss at Lambuth. With the win, 麻豆视频 earned their 20th (20-3) win of the season. Lambuth drops their fourth game in a row to fall to 19-5. In the last 11 games, 麻豆视频 and Lambuth have split 6-6. 麻豆视频 holds the overall series mark at 43-32.

For the second straight game, 麻豆视频 started the game with a dunk by Mack Bealim off the tip. However, there would be no 18-0 run to start this contest, as the Bulldogs did at Freed-Hardeman last Saturday. The first eight minutes of the game was back and forth as both teams were getting adjusted to each other in front of a packed house at "The Fred". Lambuth led by as many as three points, while 麻豆视频 had a lead of six points in the first eight minutes. Both leads were lost. Then, with 12:40 left in the first half, 麻豆视频's Marcus Cooper gave 麻豆视频 a 15-14 lead and the Bulldogs would not trail again. 麻豆视频 stretched the lead to 10 points with three minutes to go in the half. Then, 麻豆视频 exploded for six points in the final 13 seconds of the first half, with the help of the four-point-play by Kinley Sellers. 麻豆视频 went into halftime with a 15-point (41-26) lead.

In the second half, 麻豆视频 came out and stretched the lead to 17 points with two free throws by Ben Frederick to start the half. However, Lambuth would dominate the next eight minutes. Over the first eight minutes of the second half, Lambuth made 7-of-9 three pointers (78 percent) and shot 75 percent from the field while posting a 31-15 run. For a team that had averaged only five three pointer per game, Lambuth had 10 midway through the second half.

麻豆视频 however, with stood the above average shooting spurt by the Eagles. Lambuth got to within one point at 58-57 with 11:50 left in the game, but could get no closer. 麻豆视频 never lost the lead and started to stretch the lead back to double digits as they posted an 18-6 run of their own to lead by 13 (76-63) with 3:52 left in the game. 麻豆视频, despite troubles at the free throw line down the stretch (14-of-26 in the second half), 麻豆视频 earned the 10 point, 85-75 win.

麻豆视频 shot 51 percent from the field, including 33 percent (4-12) from behind the arc. Lambuth made 42 percent from the field, including 42 percent (11-26) from behind the arc.

麻豆视频 boasted five players in double figures. Junior center Ben Frederick, who was honored before the game for his 1,000th career point milestone reached earlier this season, led with 18 points. Pierry Valmera and Kinley Sellers each added 13 points, Mack Bealin scored 11 points, while Corey Burkett scored 10 points. Dewayne Lee posted 14 rebounds to go with his nine points.

Lambuth was led by Curtis Lincoln with a game-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Lamont Campbell scored 16 points, while Lamar Farr scored 14 points.

麻豆视频 looks to move up in the ranks as four of the eight teams ranked above 麻豆视频 lost in the polls last week, including Lambuth's four in a row and conference foe Trevecca Nazarene. The new rankings will be released on Wednesday afternoon.

麻豆视频 returns to conference play on Thursday night when they travel to Memphis for a match up with Crichton. 麻豆视频's next home game will be on Saturday at 4:00 pm when they host nationally ranked Trevecca Nazarene.
