JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/4/2006 - The No. 9 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs kept pace in the TranSouth Conference with a 91-64 win at Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 19-3 overall and 5-1 in league play, while Freed-Hardeman fell to 8-15 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ boasted six players in double figures led by Mack Bealim's 17 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ used a 48-point first half to jump out to a 21-point halftime lead. The Bulldogs coasted in the second half as they extended the lead to the final 91-64.
In the game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot only 27 percent (6-21) from behind the arc, however, shot 53 percent from the field overall. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 23-30 free throws.
Freed-Hardeman was held to just 34 percent shooting from the field, including just 25 percent (8-32) from three point range. The Lions made 12-of-17 free throws. Seth Matlock led the way with 13 points for Freed-Hardeman.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ramains in a tie for first play with a 5-1 record in the TranSouth. Crihton College is the only other team at 5-1 in league play as they topped Trevecca Nazarene 106-82 earlier today. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has already defeated Crichton this season, 89-66.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a rematch of the earlier meeting with cross-town rival Lambuth University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host the Ealges on Tuesday night at 8:00 pm. Lambuth won the earlier meeting 81-70 after Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had just topped the No. 1 team in the nation, Mountain State, on their home floor 104-98 in overtime.
