JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/1/2006 - After an undefeated week for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s and women’s basketball teams, both remain ranked in the Top-10 of the latest NAIA National Rankings. This marks the eighth straight week (every NAIA poll this season,) in which the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men and women have been ranked in the Top-10. The women moved back into the top-5 at No. 5, while the men, remained at No. 9, despite watching six teams ranked ahead of them lose during the week.
Of the top-19 teams in the previous men’s national rankings, 15 of them lost at least one game last week. On the season, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men are 7-0 at home, 10-3 on the road, and 10-3 versus ranked teams. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s three losses are to the No. 5, No. 7, and No. 8 teams, all on the road. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also gave No. 1 Mountain State their only loss of the season. Up next for the Bulldogs will be a home game on Thursday night, February 2 versus Martin Methodist College at 8:00 pm. Then Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to Henderson, Tennessee on Saturday to face Freed-Hardeman at 4:00 pm.
The Lady Bulldogs moved up one spot to No. 5 after a perfect 2-0 week, including a win at No. 11 Cumberland. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host Martin Methodist on Thursday night, February 2 at 6:00 pm. However, the game everyone is awaiting is the top-5 match-up as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to No. 2 Freed-Hardeman on Saturday for a 2:00 pm start time. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Freed-Hardeman combine for the last 10 conference tournament titles. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the league eight straight seasons from 1996-2003. Freed-Hardeman has won twice, 2004 and 2005.
