Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s White Named NSCAA/adidas NAIA South Region Coach of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/16/2006 - Following their best season in school history, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer coach Dr. Darin White was named the . Those recipients will be announced at the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, held in conjunction with the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the season with the best record (12-3-2) and best finish in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ soccer history (Region XI Runner-Up). This team earned runner-up finishes in the TranSouth regular season, TranSouth Tournament, and NAIA Region XI Tournament. Over the past few years, Head Coach Darin White's team has inched one step closer to the NAIA Nationals, and this year, they were just one win away. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ returns all but two players on a team that will be favored to make that one final step on the road to nationals in 2006.

Dr. Darin White has completed 12 seasons as the head coach for the Bulldogs. The first four years of White’s coaching career was from 1994-1997 as the head coach of the club team prior to the team being named varsity in 1998. From 1995-1997, the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ club team was a member of the Southeastern Conference Club League.

White has brought the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs to a new competitive level over the short history of the program. Over the first eight years of the program, White has compiled an overall record of 93-64-10. From 1999-2005, White has led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to seven consecutive seasons of .500 or better soccer. During his tenure, White has also coached the Bulldogs to five NCCAA MidEast Region Championships and one NCCAA National Championship (2003).

White, a native of Alabama, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1989. He received the degrees of Master of Arts (1992) and Doctor of Philosophy (1995) from the University of Alabama. White also holds his National Coaching License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
