JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/14/2006 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs defeated No. 16 Lindsey Wilson College 74-63 to move to 14-2 on the season. Lindsey Wilson fell to 13-3 overall. This marked the second win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ over Lindsey Wilson as they defeated the Blue Raiders 66-64 earlier on the road.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by 13 points, 38-25 at halftime thanks to some hot shooting from Corey Burkett. Burkett drained 4-of-6 three pointers in the first half while Lindsey Wilson made just 1-of-14 three's in the first half as a team. In the second half, it was more Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as they stretched the lead to 26 points at 55-29 with 13 mintues left. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ still led by 26 points at the 10-minute mark (65-39) and held a 21 point lead with five minutes left. Lindsey Wilson cut into the lead in the final five minute as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started taking time off the clock. Several turnovers and missed free throws by the Bulldogs help attribute to the Blue Raider run. Lindsey's Brett Meredith and Allan Sanders also combined for four three pointers in the final stretch.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Corey Burkett with 28 points on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arch and 9-of-11 shooting from the free throw line. Ben Frederick added 17 points, while Mack Bealim scored 12 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 44 percent from the field and 32 percent (6-19) from behind the arc.
Lindsey Wilson was led by Stephen Russell with 14 points, Lloyd Lewis added 12 points and 12 boards, while Scott Cook scored 11 points. For the game, Lindsey Wilson shot just 28 percent from the field and 21 percent (6-29) from behind the arc.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is another road game versus a ranked team. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opens conference play on Thursday, January 19 when they travel to No. 10 Trevecca Nazarene University for an 8:00 pm game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 10-2 on the season versus ranked teams, 9-2 on the road and 5-0 at home.
