JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/17/2005 - Playing on the road versus a top-ranked NAIA opponent has been the norm this season, and Saturday was no different. NAIA No. 4 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University defeated No. 25 Oklahoma City University 79-73 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to improve to 12-1 on the season. Oklahoma City fell to 6-5 with the loss, their first of the season at home.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 41-34 at the half with the help of good shooting and defense. The Bulldogs shot 53-percent from the field including 57-percent (4-7) from behind the arc. In the second half, Oklahoma City ralled and led 71-68 with 3:54 left. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ went on an 8-0 run capped by a three pointer by senior Corey Burkett to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the 76-71 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ went on from their for the 79-73 win.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Ben Frederick with 17 points. Mack Bealim added 12 points, while Corey Burkett and Kinley Sellers each tallied 10 points. Deywane Lee led with a game-high 16 rebounds. This game also marked the return of big man Pierry Valmera. Valmera had missed the past five game with an ankle injury. He tallied nine points in 17 minutes.
For Oklahoma City, Lorenzo Gordon, in his first game for the Stars after being inelgible in the first have of the season, poured in 27 points to lead all scorers. Ryan Godwin added 22 points for OCU.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is off for the rest of this calender year and will pick up play again on January 7 as they travel to the NAIA's No. 1 ranked team, Mountain State University.
