Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Men Hold On for Win in Battle of Top-25's

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/18/2005 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, defeated No. 24 Missouri Baptist University 82-79 in the McKendree Invitational in Lebanon, Ill. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 5-0 on the season while Missouri Baptist falls to 3-3. This marks the second time Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has topped Missouri Baptist this season as the Bulldogs won the season opener 104-83.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a 43-26 halftime lead after shooting 17-of-32 (53 percent) from the field and 6-of-13 (46 percent) from behind the arc in the first half. However, in the second half, Missouri Baptist scored 15 straight points and had a six-point lead (64-58) with just seven minutes left in the game. Missouri Baptist led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ by 10 with four mintues remaining before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started their rally. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ managed just one three pointer made in the second half compared to 5-of-11 (46 percent) for Missouri Baptist. Missouri Baptist shot 65 percent from the field in the socond half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to right the ship and come away with the bid three-point win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Pierry Valmera with 17 points. Mack Bealim added 15 points, Corey Burkett scored 14 points, and Ben Frederick added 11 points. Missouri Baptist was paced with Joe Rothweiler and Franklin Penn with 18 points each. Alonzo Franklin and Jason Fry each added 17 points.
