JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/15/2005 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s Corey Burkett is this week’s TranSouth Conference men’s basketball player of the week for the week ending November 13, 2005.
Burkett, a 6-foot-3 senior guard from Dothan, Alabama, helped lead the NAIA No. 6 Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with a 111-76 win over Williams Baptist and a 67-66 win over No. 13 Oklahoma City. Against Williams Baptist Burkett scored 24 points, dished out four assists, had two steals, and hit 6-of-8 from beyond the 3-point line. In the win over No. 13 Oklahoma City Burkett, a first team All-TranSouth selection last season, added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and hit 3-of-7 from 3-point range. For the week Burkett averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and a steal per game while hitting 9-of-15 (60%) from 3-point range and 13-of-22 (59%) from the field.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has started the season 4-0 after finishing ranked No. 12 last season with the TranSouth tournament title and a share of the regular season title.
The upcoming stretch of games for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs will be a tough one. Ten of the Bulldogs’ next 12 games are on the road. In that stretch, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays eight of the 12 games versus teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25, not to mention the exhibition game tonight versus NCAA Div. I Middle Tennessee State University.
