Â鶹ÊÓƵ Drops Out of First with Loss to Freed-Hardeman

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/6/2005 - Â鶹ÊÓƵ University dropped a home match to Freed-Hardeman University 3-1 (31-29, 30-22, 26-30, 30-22) to fall out of a first place tie in the TranSouth. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is now 11-6 overall and 3-2 in the leage. Freed-Hardeman improves to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Freed-Hardman are now tied for second, along with Lyon, with two losses apiece.

In the first game, Â鶹ÊÓƵ led 26-20, but allowed a late rally by the Lady Lions as they to the early 1-0 lead in the match. That game seemed to deflate Â鶹ÊÓƵ as they dropped the second game 30-22. Â鶹ÊÓƵ rallied to win the third game, but Freed-Hardeman was too strong on this night and they stop any Â鶹ÊÓƵ hopes with a win in the fourth game.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ was led by Edith Mendoza with 20 kills, Amanda Hutchison tallied 17 kills, and Monica Schirmer added 14 kills. Purity Ogolla, the TranSouth and Region XI Setter of the Week, led with 58 assists. Hutichison and Mendoza led with three blocks each.

In this year's wide open conference race. Martin Methodist leads the way with just one loss, as Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Freed-Hardeman, and Lyon all have just two losses. With over half the conference schedule to go, it's still any team's title to win.

Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be a road trip to Lyon College on Tuesday, October 11. The Lady Bulldogs will turn around and play on Thursday, October 13 as they host Martin Methodist College at 7:00 pm. A couple of wins in these two matches could boost Â鶹ÊÓƵ right back to the top in the TranSouth.
