JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/11/2005 - , a former two-sport star at Jackson鈥檚 North Side High School, is transferring to 麻豆视频 University to play his final two seasons with the Bulldogs. Yates will enter 麻豆视频 this fall as a junior and will complete his degree in Marketing.
麻豆视频 head coach Brent Fronabarger says of Yates, 鈥淗e鈥檚 a guy that will come in immediately and cover the spacious centerfield at 麻豆视频. He is also a good left handed hitter at the top of the lineup.鈥 Fronabarger adds, 鈥淜yle is a perfect fit for our field because he hits a lot of line drives to the gaps and has great speed which will be an advantage both on offense and defense.鈥
Yates, a 5-foot-11 160 lb. outfielder spent the past two seasons at the University of North Alabama after graduating from North Side in 2002. In 2005 at North Alabama, Yates hit .267 with 46 hits, 36 runs, 12 doubles, three triples, three homeruns, and 32 RBI. He also recorded nine stolen bases in 10 attempts. In 2004, his freshman season, Yates his .338 in 77 at bats. He tallied 26 hits, 23 runs, five doubles, 11 RBI, and six stolen bases. During his two years at North Alabama, Yates recorded 39 walks.
In high school at North Side, Yates helped lead the Indians to district championship in 1999, 2001, and 2002 and region championships in 1999 and 2001. Yates was named All-District, All-Region, and district tournament MVP.
Yates is the son of Greg and Paula Yates of Jackson and is the younger brother of former 麻豆视频 pitcher, Adam (2005).
