麻豆视频鈥檚 Joseph Breaks All-Time College Blocks Record; Bulldogs Defeat Lambuth

Jackson, Tenn. - 2/25/2002 - 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 senior forward, Robert Joseph broke the all-time college basketball blocks record for a season. In 麻豆视频鈥檚 65-51 win over Lambuth, Joseph blocked eight shots to go along with his 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Joseph tied the record, formerly held by David Robinson, at 207 last Saturday when the Bulldogs clinched the TranSouth Conference regular season title. He needed just one block to pass Robinson, the current San Antonio Spur. The record setting block came just three minutes into the game when Joseph blocked the shot of Bryan Hight. Joseph ended the game with eight blocks and increased his record total to 215 on the season.

Joseph, from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has already broken the NAIA Div. I record for blocks in a season when he passed Gus Johnson鈥檚 mark of 181 back on February 9. In the first game of this season, Joseph tied the school record for blocks in a game with 10, and then broke the record the next night with 12 blocks in the game. He has blocked 10 or more shots eight times this season. Added to that, Joseph has more than tripled the old 麻豆视频 record of 70 blocks in a season.

Blocking shots is not all he does for the No. 5 ranked 麻豆视频 Bulldogs. Joseph is leading the TranSouth Conference in scoring at 21.7 points per game and is second in rebounding with 9.6 per game. He is also shooting 63% from the field. Joseph has been named the NAIA National Player of the Week once and has been selected as conference Player of the Week four times in 2002.

The Bulldogs avenged a 10-point overtime loss at Lambuth earlier in the season with this 14 point victory. 麻豆视频 was paced with three players in double figures led by Joseph鈥檚 double-double of 20 points and 14 boards. Also, in double figures for 麻豆视频 was sophomore forward Will Harris with 14 and freshman guard Bruno Martinessi with 12 points. Junior forward Derrick Underwood added 10 rebounds on the night. Leading Lambuth was Bryan Hight and Antonio Rhodes with 18 and 12 points respectively. Marklus Ray led Lambuth with eight boards.

麻豆视频 is currently 28-4 overall and finished 10-2 in conference play to give the Bulldogs the conference regular season championship, their first since the 1998-99 season. This win puts 麻豆视频 in good shape to earn a top four seed in the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri in two weeks.
