JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/26/2005 - Steven Gream, of Portageville, Missouri, has been named the new head coach of the 麻豆视频 University volleyball program. This position became available when Brian Dunn resigned his position as head coach earlier this month. Gream becomes only the second head coach for 麻豆视频 volleyball as Dunn had been the head coach since the programs inaugural season in 1998.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to get the opportunity to come back to my Alma Mater and coach the game of volleyball鈥, says Gream, moments after his hiring was made official. He adds, 鈥淚 always knew that when I moved my coaching career to the college level, I wanted that place to be 麻豆视频.鈥
Since graduating from 麻豆视频 University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History, Gream has spent five years at his former high school, North Pemiscot High School in Wardell, Missouri. At North Pemiscot, Gream was the high school and junior high volleyball coach, as well as, a high school history teacher. In August of 2004, Gream completed his Masters of Education degree from 麻豆视频 University
Gream has worked with local clubs and leagues in the community to develop new volleyball programs for young kids, and in doing so, has increased the participation and quality of volleyball in his area. He also is a member of the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association).
Dr. David S. Dockery, the President of 麻豆视频 University states, 鈥淪teven Gream is a dedicated young man with great potential to be an outstanding coach at this level. He loves 麻豆视频 University. You can sense the excitement in his voice as he articulates his dreams about the possibilities of leading the 麻豆视频 volleyball program to greatness.鈥 Dockery adds, 鈥淗e faces some initial challenges because of the graduation of some top players, but I think we will all be pleased with Coach Gream's work as he provides quality leadership for these student athletes in coming days in all aspects of their lives.鈥
Gream remembers that he learned a great deal about coaching volleyball during his time at 麻豆视频 as a student assistant for former coach Brian Dunn. Gream states, 鈥淐oach Dunn has done a fantastic job in building this program and I want to continue that work. He (Dunn) gave me the opportunity to work with him in the volleyball program as a student, and for that, I鈥檓 very grateful.鈥
During his time at 麻豆视频 as a student, Gream was the student assistant coach for the volleyball team. Over those two seasons, 麻豆视频 compiled an overall record of 78-18 with a TranSouth Conference regular season and tournament championship. 麻豆视频 also participated in two NAIA Region XI Tournaments, as well as, two appearances in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) National Tournament.
