Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Kosco, Haycraft Take TranSouth Weekly Softball Honors

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/19/2005 - Mary Kosco and Holly Haycraft of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University have been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week respectively for the week ending April 17, 2005.

, a 5-foot-5 junior pitcher from Herrin, Illinois, helped lead the No. 10 Bulldogs to a 5-1 record on the week with a pair of complete game shutouts. Kosco helped propel Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ into first place in the conference standings with her 2-0 record on the week. In her 14.0 innings pitched, she allowed just 6 hits and tallied 17 strikeouts. Kosco is 17-3 overall on the season and has a conference leading 0.59 ERA on the year. Her best performance was a seven inning-10 strikeout performance against Freed-Hardeman University. In that 2-0 victory Kosco allowed only two hits and three walks in the game.

, a 5-foot-6 junior from Dyersburg, Tenn., helped No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to a 5-1 week including three conference wins in four games, which put the Lady Bulldogs in first place in the league. In Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's three conference wins, Haycraft scored the winning run in the 2-0 win over Freed-Hardeman, the winning run in the 1-0 win over Martin Methodist, and the game tying run in the 6-5 win over Martin Methodist. In the first game against Freed-Hardeman Haycraft was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two triples, and was successful on her only stolen base attempt. On the week Haycraft was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. On the season, Haycraft is hitting .366 with 36 stolen bases.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was ranked No. 10 in last week’s NAIA Top 25 and is ranked No. 1 again in this week’s NAIA Region XI rating. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 34-7-1 on the season and 6-2 in conference place, good for first place. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host Trevecca Nazarene (7-3, second place) today at 4:00 pm for a double header at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Fesmire Field. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ leads Trevecca Nazarene by one game in the loss column and could move one step closer to their seventh straight TranSouth regular season title with just four games to play after today.
