JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/17/2005 - The No. 13 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs extended their winning streak to seven games with a 75-64 win over Lyon College on Thursday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ now prepares to step out of conference play as they welcome in the No. 1 team in the NAIA, Mountain State University (W. Va.), on Saturday at 4:00 pm. With this win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 19-7 overall and a league best 6-1 conference record. Lyon fell to 12-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted good shooting numbers in the first half including 46% from the field and 50% (5-of-10) from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ didn't attempt a free-throw in the first. However, even with the good shooting, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ managed only a 31-26 halftime lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ came out in the second half and led by as many as 16 points in the second half before coming away with a 75-64 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ended up shooting 51% for the game, including 47% (9-of-19) from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Ben Frederick and Marcus Cooper with 17 points each. Corey Burkett added 14 points, Bruno Martinessi tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Pierry Valmera scored 10 points. Lyon was led by Dalun Smith with 27 points.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host No. 1 ranked Mountain State on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
