No. 13 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Upsets No. 5 Georgetown 75-68

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/13/2005 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs earned another win over a ranked team as they topped No. 5 Georgetown College (Ky.) 75-68 on Thursday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 13 in the nation, avenged an earlier loss at Georgetown when the Tigers topped union 81-65. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 11-4 on the season while Georgetown falls to 14-2 overall.

Last week, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led No. 2 Mountain State by one point at halftime, but failed to hold on as they took the loss. Tonight, the Bulldogs again led by one points (28-27) at halftime. This was a boost for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as the only shot 37% from the field, including just 1-of-10 from three point range in the first half. The second half was a much difference game for both teams shooting wise. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the much faster paced second half 47-41 to earn the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 63% from the field, including 83% (5-6) from behind the arc in the second half. Georgetown shot 54% from the field and 50% (4-8) from behind the arc in the second.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the lead for good with 55 seconds remaining on a driving layup by Corey Burkett to make it 69-68. Marcus Cooper then made 6-of-6 free throws in fhte final 26 seconds to seal the win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Cooper ended with eight points.

This game featured 14 ties and 15 lead changes.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Pierry Valmera with 23 points and Corey Burkett talled 20 points on 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.

Georgetown was led by Brian Silverhorn with 20 points, Ivan Jenkins with 16 points, and Lamar Rice with 12 points.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be Saturday, Jan. 15 at 4:00 pm versus Arkansas Baptist at home.
