Â鶹ÊÓƵ Baseball Opens Season This Weekend

Jackson, Tenn. - 1/30/2002 - The Bulldog baseball program opens the 2002 season on the road this weekend. Â鶹ÊÓƵ travels to Montgomery, Alabama for the Capital City Classic. Preseason ranked No. 24 in the NAIA polls, the Bulldogs will face-off against No. 5 North Georgia, No. 7 St. Thomas, and No. 9 Auburn-Montgomery in their first three games.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ has added some good talent to complement the eight seniors in hopes of fielding a deeper and more consistent team for the 2002 season. The Bulldogs finished 34-23 last season and a third consecutive trip to the NAIA Region XI Tournament. Â鶹ÊÓƵ will face five NAIA Top 25 teams during the 2002 season and have six games against NCAA Div. II opponents. The Bulldogs are favored to win the TranSouth Conference and hope to advance far into postseason play.

Coach Rushing believes this lineup could be on of the best he’s had, both offensively and defensively. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has four players who are receiving serious attention from the pro ranks. Senior third baseman and Jackson native, Jeff Wyatt, along with juniors Blake Allen, Rolondo Agosto, and USJ star Roger Cook have caught the attention of some scouts. The guys, as well as, the remainder of Coach Rushing’s talent filled squad are looking to put it all together for a championship run.

The conference play will be different this season without Birmingham-Southern and Lipscomb, both have moved to NCAA Div. I. Instead of three-game conference weekends, now all teams will play four games each weekend with two on both Fridays and Saturdays. The Bulldogs are primed and ready prove they are one of the top teams in the NAIA in 2002.
