JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/10/2004 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog volleyball team continues to rack up the honors following their historic run to the NAIA National Tournament. The NAIA has named Gladys Wandera as a first team All-American performer, while teammate Phylis Anyango has been named an honorable mentioned All-American. In addition, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ head coach Brian Dunn was named the region coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
For , this honor comes on the heels of her NAIA Region XI Player of the Year honor and All-Region selection. Also this past week, Wandera received a selection to the AVCA All-American first team. She finished the season with 750 kills (6.15 per game), 76 service aces, and 161 blocks. Earlier this year, Wandera was named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Year. In her two seasons at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, Wandera has been named the conference and region player of the Year, plus, has been named to the All-American first team.
adds this honor to her first team All-Conference and All-Region honors. Anyango finished second behind Wandera with 531 kills this season. She also tallied 97 total blocks, also good for second on the team.
For , this marks his third coach of the year honor this postseason. He earned the TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year, Region XI Coach of the Year, and now the AVCA Region Coach of the Year. He led this team to the NAIA Region XI Tournament for the seventh time in seven years, while winning the title this season for the first time. This was Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s first ever trip to the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the season with a 31-5 record and a No. 14 final NAIA Ranking.
