Â鶹ÊÓƵ Men’s Soccer Advance to Region Semifinals

LEBANON, Tenn. - 11/10/2004 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University men’s soccer team kept their season alive with a first round win in the NAIA Region XI Tournament. Â鶹ÊÓƵ, seeded No. 5, defeated the No. 4 seed Cumberland University (Tenn.) 1-0. With this win, Â鶹ÊÓƵ (9-8-2) advances to the semifinals versus No .1 seed, and the NAIA’s No. 1 nationally ranked team, Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). This game will be on Friday at 3:00 pm in Columbia, Ky. on the campus of Lindsey Wilson.

In the game, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Daren Goldie scored the game’s only goal just five minutes into the game to give Â鶹ÊÓƵ the 1-0 lead and eventual victory. Freshman goalie Chris Lean tallied his second shutout in the past three games with five saves to help Â鶹ÊÓƵ to the win.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ defeated Cumberland on penalty kicks in the semifinals of the conference tournament to assure their trip to the region tournament. This is the first time in Â鶹ÊÓƵ soccer history that a team has advanced to the NAIA region tournament.

In the other first round game, the No. 3 seed Cumberland College (Ky.) defeated the No. 6 seed Lambuth University. The other semifinal match will feature No. 2 seeded Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) versus Cumberland College (Ky.), also on Friday in Columbia, Ky.
