Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Cross Country Sweeps TranSouth Conference Results, Awards

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/29/2004 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s and women’s cross country teams earned first place in the held in Jackson. For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, this was their second straight TranSouth Conference title for the women and first title for the men. In both the women’s and men’s race, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted the top five finishers in the conference meet.

In addition to the team championships, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ swept the individual awards as well. On the women’s side, senior Jackson native, Janelle Campbell was named the Runner of the Year as she finished first in the conference meet. Candace Cross was named the Freshman Runner of the Year with a third place finish. On the men’s side, Phillip Thompson earned the Runner of the Year and Freshman Runner of the Year with his first place finish. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s head coach Gary Johnson was named both the women’s and men’s Coach of the Year in the conference.

Six Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs were named to the TranSouth All-Conference team. This team is made up of the top seven finishers in the conference meet. Janelle Campbell, Ruth Schroder, Candace Cross, Jill Konkol, Kate Graham, and Rachel Cazalas were each named for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.

Five men earned All-Conference for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Phillip Thompson, Chris Winter, Douglas Martin, Clint Channell, and John Fox were each named to the team.

Up next for the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cross country teams will be the NAIA Region XI meet on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Louisville, Ky.
