Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Captures Seventh Straight NCCAA MidEast Region Title

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/26/2004 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog Softball Team earned its seventh consecutive NCCAA MidEast Region Championships. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ topped the #2 seeded Mid-Continent College (Ky.) 6-0 in the MidEast Region Tournament held at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's Fesmire Field on Friday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 36-10 on the season and will now advance to the NCCAA National Tournament on April 29-30 in Marion, Indiana.

Several Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs earned NCCAA region honors led by senior pitcher Leah Gronberg of College Station, Texas who was named the NCCAA MidEast Region Player of the Year. Gronberg is currently 21-3 on the year with a 1.19 ERA. Joining Gronberg on the All-Region team was Mary Kosco, Holly Haycraft, Amy Mejia, Christina Johnson, and Allison Shein.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ closed out their regurlar season with a double-header at Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday, April 27 at 5:00 p.m. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ currently sits in first place in the TranSouth Standings with a 12-7 record with just the two games at Freed-Hardeman remaining. Four other teams, including a 7-7 Freed-Hardeman sit in second place with seven loses. The Lions of Freed-Hardeman still have several conference games to play. Should Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sweep at Freed-Hardeman, it will clinch their sixth straight TranSouth Conference Championship.
