NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/14/2004 - , a native of Jackson, Tenn., was named to the 2004 TranSouth All-Conference Golf Team. Cook finished the TranSouth Golf Tournament in a tie for 6th place at +4, just three shots off first place. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished sixth in the conference tournament but should qualify for the NAIA Region XI Golf Tournament in two weeks.
Cook played baseball at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ for four seasons. The summer following is final baseball season, Cook played independent baseball for the remainder of the summer of 2003. Coming back to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the fall of 2003, Cook had one season of athletic eligibility to use in a sport other than baseball. Cook decided to play golf for head coach Don Morris. Cook was a member of USJ’s golf team in high school.
Cook, a 6-foot senior, played went to high school at the University School of Jackson and graduated in 1999. He was a three-sport athlete in baseball, football and golf. Cook helped guide the Bruins to a 1999 State Championship title in baseball while earning honors such as All-Region, All-District and All-State. He batted .460 his senior season with 16 homeruns and 70 RBI
In his senior season in baseball at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, Cook was selected to the NAIA All-Region XI baseball team. Cook was the lone Bulldog on the team. He earned the honor just a week after being named to the All-TranSouth Conference first team as a catcher. Cook was third on the Bulldog team in batting with a .365 average. He led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in five offensive categories with 72 hits, 25 doubles, 13 homeruns, 50 RBI, and a .690. As a catcher and a few appearances at third base, Cook field .996 with just one error in 277 chances. He also threw out 35% of potential base stealers (14-20). Earlier in his senior year, Cook broke Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s career record for doubles as he has tallied a total of 74 to this point. He is just three doubles shy of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ season record of 26. Cook was named to the NAIA All-American baseball team as both a junior and senior.
