JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/11/2004 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University junior forward reached the 1,000-point mark for his career in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 68-60 win over Freed-Hardeman on Saturday. Martinessi currently leads Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 6.5 rebounds per game is averaging 10.0 points per game.
Martinessi, a native of Asuncion, Paraguay, has started 81 of the 92 games for the Bulldogs since signing with the Bulldogs as a freshman in 2002. He has been a starter in every Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ game (57-57) since the start of sophomore season. Martinessi has averaged at least 10.0 points and 6.1 rebounds in each season of his career. To this point in his career, he has tallied 1,004 (10.2) points and grabbed 581 (6.3) rebounds.
Martinessi was a second team All-Conference performer last season as a sophomore. During his freshman season, he was also named second team TranSouth All-Conference and to the TranSouth All-Freshman team. Martinessi was named to the NAIA National Tournament team as a freshman in 2002.
Martinessi joins seniors Will Harris and Chima Abakwue as the other players on this year's team to have reached the 1,000-point milestones during their Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ careers.
