Abakwue Becomes Â鶹ÊÓƵ's All-Time Three-Point Leader

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/17/2003 - Â鶹ÊÓƵ University senior guard became the all-time leading three-point shooting in Â鶹ÊÓƵ history in Saturday's 86-80 win over Edward Water College. Abakwue, from Cedar Hill, Texas passed Clay Gray's career mark (1991-94) of 286 three pointers made. At his current pace, Abakwue could end up with approximately 360 three pointers made at the end of his career.

Abakwue, a 5-11 senior, has been a starter for Â鶹ÊÓƵ in each of his four seasons as a Bulldog. He was named to the TranSouth All-Freshman team. He led the TranSouth Conference in three pointers made as a freshman (86) and as a sophomore (83). He finished second last season in the TranSouth with 93 three pointers made.

This season, Abakwue is second on the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game. He has made almost 50% of his three-point attempts (22-45 for .489).

"No one deserves this record more that Chima (Abakwue)", states Â鶹ÊÓƵ's head coach Ralph Turner. "This is a direct result of the many hours and thousands of shots during his career."

In the summer of 2002, Abakwue spent a portion of his summer doing basketball ministry with Athletes in Action. Abakwue was part of a 12-member team made up of players from across the United States that traveled to the Fiji Islands and New Zealand for two weeks of basketball camps.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ is ranked No. 18 in the NAIA and is currently 6-0 on the season.
