Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Volleyball Players Receive Conference and Region Honors

Jackson, Tenn. - 11/7/2001 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Volleyball swept this weeks awards as senior Lauren Hayden and freshman Nicole Garber were named the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player and Setter of the Week respectively.

Lauren Hayden, outside hitter from Belleville, Illinois, tallied 126 kills to add to here NAIA record for career kills that she broke at the end of her junior season. Hayden added 123 digs, 12 blocks eight aces, and one assist as she helped lead Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to a runner-up finish in the NCCAA National Tournament. During the tournament Hayden was named to the All-Tournament team and was selected as NCCAA Co-Player of the Year. Hayden finished first in the TranSouth Conference in defense averaging 5.29 digs per game and she also finished second in the conference with 5.32 kills per game.

A native of Columbus, Indiana, Nicole Garber dished out 295 assists on the week and played a large part in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trip to the NCCAA national championship game. Garber also added 17 kils, 83 digs, 12 aces and seven blocks on the week. Garber led the TranSouth Conference in assists with a 12.46 per game average.

The Lady Bulldogs will open up play in the TranSouth Tournament at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. They will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament played at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas.
