Jackson, Tenn. - 9/16/2003 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Bulldog soccer team has earned their highest NAIA national rating in over four years. The Bulldogs come in this week as the No. 30 ranked team in the NAIA by receiving 14 votes. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is currently 6-1-1 on the year and has won five straight games.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ will have the chance to prove they belong as they have two tough matches ahead of them this week. On Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., the Bulldogs will travel to cross-town rival, Lambuth University for the Fifth Annual Jackson Cup. In the past four Jackson Cups, Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Lambuth have split with two wins apiece, with each game having the final score of 1-0. Â鶹ÊÓƵ won last season’s match on Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s campus. This marked the first time in the Jackson Cup history that the home team was victorious. Lambuth leads the all-time series 3-2.
After Lambuth, the Bulldogs will then have to play the perennial soccer powerhouse and the No. 10 ranked NAIA team in Berry College. Not only is this a tough test for Â鶹ÊÓƵ among the NAIA, it also marks the first TranSouth Conference game of the season for Â鶹ÊÓƵ. The Bulldogs do have the advantage of hosting Berry as the game will be on Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s campus Saturday at 3:00 p.m.. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has beaten Berry just one time in seven tries, but that one win came in a regular season home game back in 1999 when the Bulldogs prevailed 3-1.
