GULF SHORES, Ala. - 5/17/2012 - The No. 12 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team posted a 6-0 win over Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College Thursday in the first day of the NAIA Softball National Championships.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is playing in Pool E and is 1-0 after the first day. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will face Indiana-Southeast Friday at 6:00 p.m. and will close out pool play Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. game versus Lubbock Christian (Texas). The pool winner will advance to the eight-team double-elimination tournament starting Monday.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (46-10) earned the win behind the pitching of junior Huntingdon native, Brooke Thomas (24-6). Thomas tossed 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Kelly Robey pitched to and struck out the final batter of the game.
Katie Davis of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ homered to lead off the second inning and put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 1-0. Shelby Lamb homered in the third as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored three more times in the fifth to seal the victory.
