KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 5/7/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University baseball has been awarded the fourth seed in the Hardeeville, S.C. bracket, hosted by the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ earned the automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships Opening Round after winning the TranSouth Conference Tournament title last week.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is one of only 10 teams in the NAIA who have been to all four (four-straight) NAIA Baseball National Championships Opening Rounds. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 2-6 in those opening round games over the last three seasons. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is looking to return to the NAIA Baseball World Series for the second time in school history, and the first time since 1983 when the team finished third in the nation.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will open play Thursday, May 10 at 9 a.m. central time versus 5-seed Asbury (Ky.) University. If you wins, they will turn around and play again on Thursday at 5 p.m. versus the 1-seed Faulkner (Ala.) University. A loss in the first game sends Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ a elimination game at 9 a.m. Friday, May 11.
The other teams in the bracket with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be No. 1 Faulkner (Ala.), No. 2 St. Thomas (Ga.), No. 3 South Carolina-Beaufort, and No. 5 Asbury (Ky.). The winner of the bracket will advance to the NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho May 25 – June 1.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ enters the opening round bracket on a seven game winning streak. The Bulldogs have posted a 19-4 record in their last 23 games to close out the season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ currently sits at 37-17-1 on the season.
