JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/2/2012 - The No. 13 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team posted an 11-2 win over Lyon (Ark.) College in the first day of action in the 2012 TranSouth Conference Softball Tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 42-10 overall, while Lyon dropped to 12-38-1 on the season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings to win the run-rule shortened game. The big blow and game-ending inning was the bottom of the fifth when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored five times.
TranSouth Player of the Year, Shelby Lamb had a 2-for-3 day with two RBI. Brooke Thomas added two hits, along with Jenyce Spence with two hits and a team-high three RBI. Thomas (21-6) followed up her TranSouth Pitcher of the Year selection with a five inning complete game win, allowing two runs, one earned on three hits with four strikeouts.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a winner’s bracket game versus Cumberland Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. All games are being played at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex in Jackson.
