No other Cumberland player recorded a hit on Irvin besides Lind until the seventh inning.
Joining Irvin and Dew on the first team were Danny Grimm (shortstop), Doug Joyce (catcher) and Brett Pawlan (outfield). All three played a big role in helping Â鶹ÊÓƵ put up enough runs for Irvin.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ scored first in the bottom of the first as Grimm led off the inning with a single and later scored on a fielder’s choice. Grimm was 4-for-4 in the game, and scored three of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s four runs. He led off the first, third, fifth and seventh innings with hits. Â鶹ÊÓƵ scored in the first, fifth and seven innings. In the fifth, Grimm scored on a double by Joyce. In the seventh, Grimm scored on a triple from Pawlan. Pawlan later scored on a single from Cole McAdams.
Pawlan’s triple in the seventh was his first hit of the game, extending his hitting streak to 14 games on the season. He has hit safely in 21 of his past 23 games.
TranSouth Player of the Year Mike Mandarino (9-3) took the loss on the hill, allowing four runs on 11 hits with one strikeout in his complete game effort. Mandarino was also 1-for 4 in the game. Cody Ferrell was 2-for-3.
