JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/30/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University baseball team put five players on the 2012 TranSouth All-Conference first team. Doug Joyce, Danny Grimm, Brett Pawlan, Will Irvin and Cody Dew all earned the honor after helping Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to a runner-up finish in the regular season standings. Grimm was also named to the TranSouth Conference Rawlings Gold Gove Team.
Joyce, a 6-foot-4 senior catcher from Stanwood, Wash., earned his second all-conference award while at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. He hit .308 with a team-high 43 RBI, five home runs, 12 doubles and 48 hits. Behind the plate, he posted a .989 fielding percentage with just three errors in 281 total chances. Joyce threw out 11 base runners (30%).
Grimm, a 5-foot-9 senior shortstop from Jackson, has been a four year-starter for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. This is his second all-conference honor and second gold glove honor in his career. He has already set a new career record for assists with over 500 going into the tournament. Grimm was second on the team with a .333 average. he added 27 RBI, 18 doubles, 59 hits, 38 runs, and 10 stolen bases. At shortstop, he posted a .967 fielding percentage with just six errors in 184 total chances.
Pawlan, a 5-foot-9 senior from Rohnert Park, Calif., is making his first appearance on the all-conference team. Pawlan was just one of two players in the TranSouth this season to hit over .400. He posted a team best .410 average with 42 RBI, three home runs, seven triples, 12 doubles, 73 hits, and 16 stolen bases. He enters the tournament on a 13-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games.
Irvin, a 6-foot-1 senior pitcher from Salusbury, Tenn., is making his first appearance on the all-conference team. Irvin was Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s first weekend starter and posted a 7-2 record with a 2.74 ERA. In 75.2 innings pitched, he recorded 47 strikeouts and walked just 14 batters. Irvin has 10 starts with four complete games and two shutouts.
Dew, 6-foot-1 senior pitcher from Halls, set a school record for appearances by a pitcher and relief appearances. He was also responsible for 18 of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 33 regular season wins (10 wins, 8 saves). Dew sits at 31 appearances entering the tournament, breaking the old record of 25. Dew was second in the NAIA this season with 10 wins. He posted a 10-1 record with eight saves in 31 appearances, all in relief. He had a team best 2.25 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 52.0 innings pitched.
