Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ golf claims third straight TranSouth title, Barry player of the year

ATHENS, Ala. - 4/24/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University golf team led start-to-finish in to claim their third straight title. It was the fifth title in the past seven years for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Brett Barry was the medalist winner and was voted as the TranSouth Golfer of the Year for the second straight season.

The team victory for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ earns the Bulldogs the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Salem, Ore. May 22-25.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot a first round 302 and led by four shots over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fired a second round 301, but saw their lead shrink to one shot over the Trojans after two rounds. However, in the third and final round Tuesday at Canebreak Golf Club in Athens, Ala., Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pulled away from all competition with their best round of 298. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (901) finished 16 shots ahead of Trevecca Nazarene (917). Blue Mountain (Miss.) finished third (923), Cumberland (Tenn.) finished fourth (932), Bethel (Tenn.) finished fifth (953), Martin Methodist (Tenn.) finished sixth (961), Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) finished seventh (1014), and Lyon (Ark.) finished eighth (1054).

Barry shot a 3-round 213 which was tied with Trevecca Nazarene’s Joey Bradley. Kyle Long of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished third (224), Ben Waits finished tied for 10th (234), Charlie Pittman finished tied for 12th (235) and Steven Coffelt finished tied for 14th (236).

Barry and Long were named to the TranSouth All-Conference team.
