JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/21/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University baseball team posted a double-header sweep Friday at Fesmire Field over Indiana University-Southeast. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won game one 8-1 and took game two 7-1 on a rain-shortened five inning game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 28-16-1 on the season, while Indiana-Southeast dropped to 23-22.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed both games 1-0 before responding with eight unanswered runs in the first game and seven unanswered in the second game.
In the first game, Will Irvin (7-2) earned the win in a complete game effort, giving up one run and six hits and striking out four hitters. Jacob Holtz received the loss giving six earned runs on 10 hits.
After Indian-Southeast scored in the top of the first, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded in a big way in the bottom half of the frame. Doug Joyce hit a 3-run home run over the left field wall to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ a 3-1 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added two more runs in the inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored three times in the fourth to cruise to the win.
Joyce finished the game going 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and four RBI.
The second game started with a quick first inning, followed by a 50-minute rain delay. After the rain delay, the game reached the top of the sixth inning before the rain set in for good, forcing the game to be called after five innings.
Jared Davis (2-5) earned the win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ giving up only one run and striking out seven. For Indiana Southeast, Drew Evans received the loss giving up five earned runs in the game.
With Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ leading 2-1, the Bulldogs batted around in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five times. In the bottom of the fifth Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got four hits, including a two RBI single from RJ Rayborn and a RBI triple from Kody Pinson.
The same two teams will face each other again Saturday in a double-header at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ starting at noon.
