NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 3/30/2012 - The No. 11 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball salvaged a double-header split at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville Friday afternoon. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped the first game 6-4 and then won the second game 5-2. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 26-7 overall and 12-2 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene is 18-10 on the season, 9-2 in league play.
In the second game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell behind early with two runs from Trevecca in the first inning. However, freshman pitcher Kelly Robey (12-2) settled in and didn’t allow anymore runs. She finished the game, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ offense joined the game in the fourth inning with run on a lead-off homer from Shelby Lamb. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added two more runs in the fifth. DeShuni Sanders led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Alex Williams. Kohnley Wade walked and later scored on a throwing error. Lamb recorded her second RBI of the game by driving in Sam Geisler who reached on an error. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a fifth run in the sixth inning on a home run from Brooke Thomas.
In the first game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in the second inning on an RBI double from Thomas. Trevecca tied the game in the bottom of the second, then added two runs in the third and three in the fourth to lead 6-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tried to rally, but fell short as they added three runs in the fifth. Alex William hit a 2-run homer and Geisler followed with a solo shot later in the inning, but the scoring stopped there. Thomas (12-5) took the loss, going six innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stays in middle Tennessee and faces Cumberland in a double-header in Lebenon, Tenn. Saturday.
