OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - 3/28/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s golf team posted an eighth place finish in the Trevecca Nazarene University Spring Invitational at the Old Hickory Country Club. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ used a strong second day to improve their finish after a tough first round.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished eighth place in the 14-team field. The winning team was Lipscomb University with a 572 (+4). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot a 2-day total of 589 (+21).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Ben Waits, playing as an individual, scored a 3-under 139 and finished third in the event. He shot a two day score of 139 (-3), just two shots off the winner (Jordan Jennings of Middle-Tennessee).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was in 10th place after the first round with a score of 305. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a 284 in the final round Tuesday to move up the board. The 284 was the fourth best team score of the day in the 14-team field. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had three golfers to fire a 68 in the final round. Brett Barry and Kyle Long each counted toward the team score and Ben Waits did so as an individual. Only one other golfer in the tournament shot a better score that 68 in the entire tournament.
The team scores for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ included Barry in 10th place (144), Long in 14th place (145), Steven Coffelt in 27th place (148), Charlie Pittman in 44th place (152) and Jesper Swedenborg in 65 place (159).
