FRANKFORT, Ky. - 3/17/2012 - Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Tenn.) University put on a clinic on both ends of the court on Saturday night in a 74-52 win over Biola (Calif.) in the national quarterfinals of the 2012 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship presented by Kentuckytourism.com at the Frankfort Convention Center.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ (34-2) advances to Monday night’s semifinals where it will meet Georgetown (Ky.) College at 8 p.m. EST. Georgetown beat Rogers State (Okla.) 70-63 earlier in the night.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ used an efficient offense -- the Bulldogs connected on 53.1 percent of their shots in the game -- to advance to the program’s eighth straight national semifinals.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ -- who never trailed in the game -- methodically built a double-digit lead in the first half by attacking the interior.
Mildred Olumasi and Lavanda Ross -- who each finished the half with 11 points -- helped the Bulldogs lead by as many as 13 points on three different occasions during the half, including 34-21 at the break.
In the second half, Â鶹ÊÓƵ poured it on from the outside, making six of eight 3-pointers. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from beyond the arc.
While the offense was clicking for Â鶹ÊÓƵ, the defense was just as impressive. The Bulldogs limited Biola to 29.5 percent (18-of-61) shooting from the field -- the third straight Â鶹ÊÓƵ opponent to shoot under 36 percent for the game during the tournament.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ maintained its double-digit lead throughout half and won 74-52.
Ross led the way for the Bulldogs with 17 points and Olumasi chipped in 13 for the game.
Biola’s Charrise Reece and Amy Freet each added 14 points to lead the Eagles. Biola ends its season with a 23-11 record.
