No. 17 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ softball sweeps through classic

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/10/2012 - The No. 17 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball completed their sweep through the with two wins Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Midway (Ky.) College 8-0 and then defeated No. 24 Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 2-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 17-4 on the season.

On Friday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a 10-2 win over (RV) Davenport (Mich.) University and then defeated No. 21 Columbia (Mo.) University 5-1 to complete the four-game sweep.

In the first game Saturday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Caroline George (2-0) earned the win, tossing a complete five inning game, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 batters. The offense did the rest by pounding out 13 hits, with three each coming from Kristen Powell and Kohnley Wade to lead the team. Katie David and Jenyce Spence led the team with two RBI each. Davis, Lacy Hodge and Spence each recorded a double, while Wade had an RBI triple that scored the eighth run to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the run-rule victory.

In the second game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ leaned on the arm of junior hurler Brooke Thomas. Thomas (8-3) tossed a complete game, allowing no runs and just two hits with nine strikeouts. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s offense game with single runs in the third and fourth. Alex Williams was 3-for-3 to lead Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, while Shelby Lamb produced the team’s lone RBI.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home conference double-header versus Freed-Hardeman, Tuesday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m.
