JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/25/2012 - The No. 17 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team extended their winning streak to five games with a double-header sweep over Cardinal-Stritch (Wis.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the first game 7-0 and then won the second game 9-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 5-1 on the season, while Cardinal-Stritch dropped to 0-8.
Brooke Thomas (2-1) took care of the Wolves in the first game with a no-hitter. She struck out 13 hitters and walked two, facing just two over the minimum. Offensively, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ did their damage in the bottom of the third with six runs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a final tally in the fifth. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Stephanie Saunders and Keaton Kirk with two hits each. Katie Davis led with two RBI. Five other Lady Bulldogs players recorded one RBI each.
In game two, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wasted no time in jumping out on top as they scored three runs in the first and five more in the second inning. After a run by Cardinal-Stritch in the fifth, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ended the game early with a tally in the sixth. Kelly Robey stayed perfect on the season as she improved her record to 3-0, allowing no hits, a walk and five strikeouts in three innings of work. Caroline George tossed three innings of relief, allowing two hits, one run with six strikeouts. Shelby Lamb led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with a 3-for-3 game, two runs and one RBI. Tobie Joy and DeShuni Sanders each added two hits. Saunders drove in two runs.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their first TranSouth games of the season when Mid-Continent (Ky.) comes to Fesmire Field, Monday, Feb. 27. Double-header starts at 2:00 p.m.
