MAYFIELD, Ky. - 2/16/2012 - The No. 2 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team posted an 88-52 win at Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 26-2 on the season and 13-1 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 8-18 overall and 3-10 in league play.
This was the 10th straight win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has a one game lead in the conference standings with two games left in the regular season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ran out to a 54-20 lead at the half and never looked back. The nation’s No. 1 3-point shooting team sank nine three pointers in the game (34%). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outrebounded Mid-Continent 42-34. The turnovers were plenteous as both teams combined for 56 turnovers (Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 22, Mid-Continent 34).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Lavanda Ross with 23 points. This was the 101st time that Ross as posted double-figures in her career. She also has now passed 1,800 points in her career. Shelby Ashcraft added 17 points, Paige Parker scored 14 points, and Mildred Olumasi scored 12 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 48 percent from the field, 34 percent (9-26) from behind the arc, and 59 percent (13-22) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Stephanie Malone with 20 points and Shanice Martin with 11 points. The Lady Cougars shot 37 percent from the field, 18 percent (2-11) from long range, and 61 percent (14-23) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the final regular season home game Saturday, February 18 versus Blue Mountain (Miss.). This will be senior night for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
