No. 3 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ uses late rally to take road win at Bethel 63-46

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - 2/2/2012 - The No. 3 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team posted a 63-46 win at Bethel University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 21-1 on the season and 8-1 in the TranSouth. Bethel dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-6 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was playing short-handing on the night as senior All-American and leading scorer Lavanda Ross did not make the trip because of a sickness.

The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs held the lead for the entire game. However, with nine minutes left in the game, Bethel cut their deficit to just one point, 36-35. But Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded with an 9-0 run to push their lead back to 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ controlled the game down the stretch to pull away with the 17-point win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ swept the regular season series by taking the earlier meeting, 67-47.

Freshman guard Amy Philamlee led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 13 points. Shelby Ashcraft and Latesa McLaughlin added 12 points each and Astrid Hutteman scored 11 points. Mildred Olumasi grabbed 12 rebounds in the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 37 percent from the field, 37 percent (10-27) from long range, and 76 percent (19-25) from the free throw line.

Bethel’s Jana Roney led all scorers with 19 points. No other Lady Wildcat scored in double figures. The Lady Wildcats shot 32 percent from the field, 25 percent (4-16) from behind the arc, and 75 percent (12-16) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home conference game Saturday at 2:00 p.m. versus Martin Methodist.
