JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/16/2012 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s basketball team defeated Mid-Continent (Ky.) University 91-69 Monday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA polls, improved to 11-7 on the season and 4-1 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 2-15 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed by two at the half, but exploded for 59 second half points to pull away with the victory.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 49-48 at the 13:04 mark of the second half. Over the next eight minutes, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ran out to a 72-51 lead with a 23-2 run. Antoine Hall started the run with back-to-back three pointers, while David Lane added 11 of his game-high 26 points during that eight minute stretch.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many 24 points late in the game and shot 67 percent from the field in the second half.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ controlled the lead for the majority of the first half until Mid-Continent, sparked from a dunk by Chris Ferguson, put the Cougars up 24-22 at the 5:17 mark. Mid-Continent went from down five, to up by eight points in a matter of six minutes thanks to a 17-4 run. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied late and a three pointer from Hall cut the Bulldogs’ halftime deficit to just two points, 34-32.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Lane’s with a 26 points. Lane is averaging 24 points in his last three games. Antoine Hall added 15 points and Leventrice Gray added 14 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 50 percent from the field, 33 percent (9-27) from three point range, and 75 percent (18-24) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Chris Ferguson with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Antonio Davis and Chris Tillman each added 13 points. The Cougars shot 38 percent from the field, 15 percent (3-20) from long range, and 80 percent (16-20) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game at No. 22 Cumberland, Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in Lebanon, Tenn.
