No. 2 麻豆视频 tops No. 9 Lee 71-56, extends home streak to 28

JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/10/2011 - The 麻豆视频 University women鈥檚 basketball defeated No. 9 Lee University Saturday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. 麻豆视频鈥檚 28th straight home victory improved their record to 11-1 on the season. Lee dropped their first game of the year to fall to 9-1 overall.

The win for 麻豆视频 was also their fourth victory over a team ranked in the top-10 at the time of the game. 麻豆视频 is 7-1 this season versus teams currently ranked or receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.

Both teams struggled early with scoring points. 麻豆视频鈥檚 Mildred Olumasi scored for 麻豆视频 on the opening possession. However, no one scored again until Lee tied the game on a basket from Rachel Lockhart at the 15:16 mark.

After swapping baskets over the next few minutes, 麻豆视频 held an 8-7 lead with 11:34 to play in the half. Lee posted an 8-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 15-8. 麻豆视频 responded with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to lead 23-15 with 5:03 left in the half. The run was completed with three straight 3-pointers from freshman Astrid Huttemann. 麻豆视频 extended their first half lead to as many as 11 points with the 33-22 halftime score.

In the second half outscored Lee 14-7 in the early moments of the second half to take their largest lead of 18 points, 47-29, at the 15:46 mark. But Lee began to slowly cut into the deficit. Over the next eight minutes, Lee outscored 麻豆视频 19-7 to cut the deficit to just six points, 54-48, with 7:41 left to play.

麻豆视频 freshman Amy Philamlee responded with a driving lay up to put 麻豆视频 back up by eight points. Then it was senior All-American Lavanda Ross who took over, scoring 11 of her game-high 22 points in the final seven minutes. The Lady Bulldogs pushed their lead back to double figures. 麻豆视频 extended the lead to as many as 17 points twice in the final minutes before taking the 71-56 final.

麻豆视频 was led by Ross鈥� 22 points, followed by Olumasi and Huttemann with 12 points each. Hutteman finished with 4-of-6 shooting from long range. Rebecca Sharpe added three 3-pointers for her nine points while Philamlee finished with seven points. 麻豆视频 shot 42 percent from the field, 39 percent (9-23) from long range, and 92 percent (12-13) from the free throw line.

Lee was led by Angela Spann with 18 points and Hollie German with 14 points. The Lady Flames shot 32 percent from the field, 25 percent (4-16) from long range, and 92 percent (24-26) from the free throw line.

麻豆视频 has one game left to play before they take off for the Christmas break. 麻豆视频 will host Evangel (Mo.) December 14 at 4:00 p.m.
