JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/29/2011 - The No. 2 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s basketball team posted an 80-32 win over Rust (Miss.) College Tuesday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-1 on the season.
The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was their 27th straight home win. The Lady Bulldogs have won 87 of their last 88 home games.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored the first five points, including a three pointer from Astrid Huttemann. The Lady Bulldogs never looked back as they quickly pushed their lead out to 20-2 following a three pointer from Amy Philamlee at the 9:25 mark. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s halftime lead of 24 points, 36-12, was their largest of the half.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ controlled the second half as they extended their lead to as many as 48 points twice in the half, including the final score of 80-32.
All 11 players for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ playing in the game, with 10 reaching the scoring column. Lavanda Ross, the two-time reigning TranSouth Player of the Week, led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 14 points. Adenike Dawodu added 13 points, a career high for the freshman. Philamlee scored all 11 of her points in the first half, including three 3-pointers. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 44 percent from the field, 39 percent (12-31) from long range, and 67 percent (12-18) from the free throw line.
Rust was led by Kala Williams with 10 points. Jessica Brown added eight points. Rust shot 30 percent from the field, 13 percent (1-8) from three point range, and 33 percent (5-15) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game on Wednesday at Tougaloo (Miss.) College.
