Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cross country puts five on NAIA scholar list

VANCOUVER, Wash. - 11/21/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University cross country teams placed five runners on the Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar Athlete list. Joel Wellum, Cally Howell, Lilli Harmon, Carissa Wilson and Hannah Clardy were each named to the list.

To be an NAIA Scholar Athlete, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Wellum is a senior from Louisville, Ky., Howell is a junior from Greer, S.C., Harmon is a junior from O’Fallon, Ill., Wilson is a senior from Paducah, Ky., and Clardy is a senior from Maumelle, Ark. For Wellum, Clardy and Wilson, this is their second career NAIA Scholar Athlete honor.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is coming off a season in which the women’s team won their ninth straight TranSouth Conference title, while the men posted an eighth straight conference championship. Senior Alex Bett (Kenya), sophomore Allison Martin (Montrose, Colo./HS) and freshman Audrey Hazelhurst (Jackson, Tenn./USJ) all qualified for the NAIA National Championships that were completed Saturday, Nov. 19. Bett finished 36th, which was just six spots off All-American status that included the top 30 finishers. Hazelhurst finished 108th and Martin finished 114th.
