PULASKI, Tenn. - 11/7/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team survived a scare from the six-seeded Lyon (Ark.) College Scots. Third-seeded Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ earned the come-from-behind victory 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 15-13). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 13-19 on the season, while Lyon dropped to 12-22.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ advances to face the winner of the #2 Freed-Hardeman/#7 Mid-Continent at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. Lyon drops to the losers bracket and will play Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ split with Lyon in the regular season with each team winning on their home court. Now facing each other in the first round, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was down 1-0 and again 2-1 after three sets. The Lady Bulldogs stormed back and took the fourth set 25-16 to force the deciding set. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 10-6 in the final set, before Lyon rallied to get within one at 10-9. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ never lost the lead in the final set and earned the 15-13 victory.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kami Dickerson with 12 kills. Abbey Wainwright and Savannah Hughes added 11 kills each. Emmie Moroski dished out 40 assists and Casie Logan led with four aces. Junior Lauren Sprouse recorded 28 digs in the match and in doing so, reached the 1,000 career digs mark for her career. She needed just one dig entering the match to secure the milestone. Anna Sims, who set the school record for career blocks on senior night, led with five blocks in the win.
Lyon was led by Suzanne Fincham with 17 kills, Danielle Reed with 12 kills and Gina Reed with 11 kills. Emily Sprick and Bree Wright recorded 30 and 22 assists respectively, while Ariel Smith led with 20 digs.
